21/10/2026
GREENSMARTMED FIRST TRANSNATIONAL CAPACITY BUILDING AND COOPERATION EVENT OF THE TRANSFER PHASE – A Mediterranean Exchange: Sharing Perspectives for Agri-Food Innovation in Alentejo

Date and Time: 9-10 November 2026

Location:

Building bridges across regions and fostering knowledge exchange, GREENSMARTMED enters a new phase of collaboration and learning. The first transnational event of the transfer phase will mark the beginning of this journey in Alentejo, Portugal, providing an opportunity to explore the key challenges facing the local agri-food sector and share experiences, insights, and perspectives for its future development.

Organised by Technopolis Group Portugal, and supported by the entire project partnership, this event is a valuable opportunity to start delving deeper into the dynamics of the new innovation ecosystems involved.

Exploring Innovation Ecosystems and Agri-Food Challenges in Alentejo

Taking place in Évora on 9 and 10 November 2026, the event will bring together GREENSMARTMED partners and regional stakeholders to exchange knowledge, explore innovative approaches and identify opportunities for collaboration. Building on the experiences and lessons learned during the testing phase, the discussions will focus on how the project’s methodology and toolkit can be transferred and adapted to new regional contexts, fostering the uptake of innovative solutions across Mediterranean agri-food ecosystems.

The programme will provide insights into experiences from both the existing pilot regions and the Alentejo territory, highlighting initiatives that address key challenges such as agro-industrial circularity, water and energy efficiency, and the sustainable management of resources. Through the presentation of regional case studies and thematic discussions, participants will have the opportunity to share perspectives, identify common priorities and explore potential synergies between research organisations, businesses, public institutions and other regional actors.

A dedicated matchmaking session will further encourage dialogue and collaboration around shared challenges, including opportunities to support small and medium-sized enterprises and facilitate access to funding. These exchanges will help lay the foundations for future cooperation and support the development of stronger connections between GREENSMARTMED and the Alentejo innovation ecosystem.

The event will also extend beyond the meeting room, with study visits to Mitra Campus, GESAMB’s Organic Recovery Unit and PACT. These visits will offer participants the opportunity to discover local initiatives and practical approaches to sustainability, circularity and innovation, connecting the discussions with real-world experiences from the region.

By bringing together different perspectives, expertise and regional experiences, the GREENSMARTMED event in Alentejo will represent an important step towards the transfer of project results and the strengthening of interregional cooperation. More than an opportunity to exchange knowledge, it will provide a space to build lasting relationships, explore new avenues for collaboration and support the transition towards more sustainable, circular and resource-efficient agri-food systems.
