A new chapter begins for GREENSMARTMED: entering the Transfer Phase

09/07/2026

The GREENSMARTMED project has been selected to move forward to the Transfer Phase of the Interreg Euro-MED Programme through the Fast Lane “Test to Transfer” procedure, opening a new chapter in its mission to promote sustainable innovation and green manufacturing across the Mediterranean.

As of 1 July 2026, GREENSMARTMED officially started its 21-month Transfer Phase, joining other 18 projects selected through the Fast Lane procedure. This new phase represents an important opportunity to scale up the project’s impact by transferring validated methodologies, tools and solutions to new territories and stakeholders.

The Fast Lane procedure aims to unlock the potential of successful projects by enabling the reuse and adaptation of tested results in new regional contexts, strengthening cooperation and maximising long-term impact across the Mediterranean area.

Expanding GREENSMARTMED’s impact across four new Mediterranean countries

During the Transfer Phase, GREENSMARTMED will extend its activities to four additional Mediterranean countries: Portugal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Slovenia.

The project will continue to focus on three strategic sectors supporting the green transition of Mediterranean economies: textile, plastics and agri-food sectors.

Through the transfer of its validated Methodology and Toolkit, the project will support companies, innovation actors and regional ecosystems in adopting more sustainable and competitive approaches to manufacturing.

A strengthened partnership to support sustainable innovation ecosystems

The Transfer Phase builds on the expertise developed during the Test Phase while introducing new partners that will contribute to expanding the project’s reach and impact in new regions.

The new project partners joining GREENSMARTMED are:

These organisations bring extensive experience in the textile, plastics and agri-food sectors, as well as strong expertise in activating innovation ecosystems, fostering stakeholder engagement and building regional networks that support collaboration among SMEs, research organisations, business support organisations and public authorities.

Their contribution will be essential to facilitate the transfer of GREENSMARTMED’s approach, ensuring their effective implementation in the new territories and supporting the adoption of sustainable innovation practices.

The partners involved during the Test Phase — Università degli Studi di Bergamo, Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH), CUEIM, and AFIL – Associazione Fabbrica Intelligente Lombardia — will continue to contribute to the project by providing their expertise and support, ensuring continuity and strengthening the link between the results achieved and their future uptake. The other partners previously involved will join this new chapter as Associated Partners.

Building on capitalisation efforts to maximise systemic impact

The activities planned for the next 21 months build on the capitalisation work already initiated during the Test Phase, ensuring continuity between the results achieved so far and their further uptake across new territories and innovation ecosystems.

This next step is also supported by the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the project partners, which represents a shared commitment to strengthen cooperation, promote the reuse of GREENSMARTMED results and foster their integration into relevant strategic frameworks.

A key priority of the Transfer Phase will be to further translate project results into evidence and knowledge that can support policymakers and value-chain actors, facilitating their integration into strategic agendas and contributing to the generation of broader systemic impact.

Transferring knowledge and solutions for greener manufacturing

Over the next 21 months, the project will focus on transferring and implementing its Methodology and Toolkit across the four new Transfer Regions.

The main activities will include:

  • capacity building activities for new partners;
  • regional ecosystems mapping;
  • implementation of GREENSMARTMED tools and approaches in new territories;
  • engagement of SMEs, research organisations, business support organisations and public authorities;
  • knowledge exchange and transregional collaboration to maximise the long-term impact of the project.

By combining the experience of the established partnership with the expertise of new regional actors, GREENSMARTMED will continue to advance green manufacturing, sustainable innovation and cross-border cooperation, contributing to a more resilient and competitive Mediterranean economy.
