Next 20th of May, GREENSMARTMED project will take part in the 2nd International Workshop of the Interreg Euro-MED ProcuraMED project titled “How Strategic Procurement Can Drive the Activation of Innovative Circular Value Chains”. During the event, hosted by the Municipality of Narni, Italy, gathering both local and stakeholders, experts, policy makers and general public to discuss about the green procurement topic, the GREENSMARTMED project, represented by the project partner AFIL, will provide practical examples on public procurement for a circular economy, based on the experience got through the ongoing implementation of the project regional core groups on sustainability challenges in the manufacturing sector.

The ProcuraMED project aims at supporting the transition towards competitive, innovative, sustainable and resilient ecosystems in the Mediterranean area, developing innovation capacities of enterprises and local authorities and enabling the uptake of advanced green technologies by means of Strategic Procurement Procedures. The common sustainability goal for ProcuraMED and GREENSMARTMED project, even though realized through different approaches and methods, makes it possible to explore and build possible synergies between the two Interreg Euro-MED projects, belonging to Innovative and Sustainable Economy Mission, in line with the main scopes of the Results Amplification Strategy.

More in detail, the Italian workshop will focus on the role of strategic procurement in triggering the development of innovative circular value chains. Participants will explore European policy frameworks and dive into successful real-life examples from key sectors such as textiles, plastic waste, and organic waste management. These experiences will be analysed through cross-cutting lenses, including innovation and stakeholder engagement.

A dedicated session of parallel discussion groups will offer participants the opportunity to assess the conditions for implementing, adapting, and replicating these approaches in different local and regional contexts. The event aims to foster meaningful dialogue between policy makers, industry professionals, and other actors involved in Public Procurement of Innovation (PPI) and Green Public Procurement (GPP), providing a valuable space for knowledge exchange and collaboration.

By enabling these conversations, the workshop will contribute to strengthening strategic procurement as a lever for sustainable innovation and to spreading best practices throughout the Mediterranean region.
