A GREENSMARTMED successful transnational cooperation event was held on 10th and 11th of December in Lyon, to learn, connect, share and collaborate for the realization of a green revolution in the manufacturing sector.
In the framework of the GREENSMARTMED project, on last 10th and 11th of December the French partners POLYMERIS and Université Claude Bernard de Lyon 1 organized the GREENSMARTMED 2nd project meeting and Transnational Cooperation Event, aiming at fostering innovation and regional strategies for a concrete change in the manufacturing sector.
The two-days event was held at Matéri’act (a research company collaborating with POLYMERIS) and at the Institut des Sciences Analytiques of the Université Claude Bernard de Lyon (ISA) venues in Villeurbanne, France, and included capacity building working groups, living lab sessions, networking activities and company visits to Matéri’act and ISA venues and to the Axel’one company platform (a research centre collaborating with UCBL1).
The event proved to be very successful, representing a stimulating opportunity for all participants to learn more about GREENSMARTMED project and the concrete functioning and impact of green processes in the manufacturing sector, as well to start building new cooperation opportunities, in line with the project main scope to facilitate the connections between different stakeholders and enhance the positive impact of RIS3 as implemented in different regional and national levels.
More in detail, project partners and participants had the occasion to:
- Connect with stakeholders from external organizations (University of Brescia, BIODYMIA), as well as with referents of some of the project Associated Partners (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Entreprises, Just Transition Institute), other projects (HORIZON SOLSTICE, Interreg Euro-MED VERDEinMED, Interreg IPA ADRION Mission4Water) and research referents from ISA (Dr. Emmanuelle Vuillet, Dr. Abdelhamid Elaissari), who intervened to present their experiences.
- Learn more about alternative or integrative approaches to the green manufacturing goal, innovative solutions like in the polymers recycling, and RIS3 Strategies for the manufacturing sector.
- Share experiences and find new synergies and cooperation opportunities with new potential partners and projects.
- Better understand the current situation faced by manufacturing SMEs in the different project Regions in line with the S3 implemented by their respective Regional or National Authorities.
- See first-hand the ongoing innovation processes in the manufacturing sectors by taking part in the planned visits to:
- Matéri’act company, showing its activities with innovative, eco-friendly material solutions supporting green manufacturing, focusing on high-performance polymers and advanced composites.
- Institut des Sciences Analytiques of the Université Claude Bernard de Lyon laboratories, to see and learn more about the several research activities implemented with chemical products to introduce innovative solutions for industrial, medical and daily needs.
- Axel’One collaborative innovation platform venues and laboratories, that pool services, tools and skills aimed at reducing the costs and risks of industrial scale-up, support R&D projects, VSEs and SMEs in the fields of advanced materials and innovative processes.
The event was also an occasion to realize the already scheduled 2nd project meeting, which was held in the morning of the 10th of December. The internal meeting proved to be very useful to align among all partners the main strategy and following steps of the project implementation, as well as to clarify what has been achieved so far and how to smoothly and jointly move towards the next goals.
More in detail, each partner:
- Provided all partners with an overview of the ongoing main activities in their respective frameworks and WPs, with a focus on the ones realized and completed in the 2nd semester and the ones to be realized in the following 3rd semester and beyond according to a cooperative approach, so as to ensuring the partnership alignment with the general and specific plans for the future project implementation.
- Kept informed all partners about the Interreg Euro-MED Programme and ISE Mission Governance projects activities, seminars and events already planned or to be scheduled in the future, to ensure their participation and the alignment of the project with the Programme main strategy.
The event represented a milestone in the project implementation, showing the way for a more effective development of the upcoming pilot test phase, boosting the collaborative network of the involved partners and associated partners and offering an opportunity to widen its strategy and improve its activities coherently with the Interreg Euro-MED overall strategy for the results amplification.
It showed that a revolution in the manufacturing sector is more than possible. It is already running and working in the daily efforts of several European SMEs committed to innovate and make their processes greener and more sustainable.
This great energy only needs the right approach, integrated methodology and tools, joint effort and cooperation, to be able to be channelled, upscaled and lifted to a higher level to become transferable and available to wider network of stakeholders and bring to the transition towards a more sustainable and innovative industry.
